Spread the Love!

Today at lunch, my coworker Matthew mentioned our mutual coworker Robyn. He thought it was funny to overhear Robyn calling her husband in the middle of the day. According to Matthew, there would be a scattered conversation, an “I love you,” and a goodbye.

To him, it seemed like the only reason the phone call existed was to say the “I love you” part.

“So why doesn’t she just do that?”

I asked if he had ever called his girlfriend only to tell her he loved her and got off the phone. He was saying she would love that. So I countered, “Well, you know what we have to do now, right?”

We both agreed to call our significant others to tell them we loved them.

While leaving Chipotle, Matthew was taking his sweet time, so I called Delilah as I went to the car. I started with, “Hey, I’m just calling to say I love you.” She talked a little about what she was doing next, and then we got off the phone. During that time, Matthew entered the car and said, “Well, I guess I have to do it now.” I joked, “Put it on speakerphone.”

His girlfriend, Trish, had a little more to say in return. But the call ended by the time we got back to the office.

As you might recall, I am sharing an office with Robyn and let her know she was discussed at lunch. She eyed me dubiously, and when I related our story about her perceived conversations with her husband during the day, she said, “Now, I really don’t believe you.”

I assured her it was true and told her how she inspired us to share the love. Convinced, she wanted to join in and called her husband, stating first her love for him. He told her he loved her too and started to talk about his day before she cut him off and let him go.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you if it meant anything to each receiver. However, I enjoyed how talking about love encouraged me to profess my love, which motivated Matthew to declare his passion and so on when Robyn heard the story. I would love to think that people reading this blog post are inspired to call someone randomly to tell them they love them for no reason.

Who wouldn’t want a bit more love in their lives?
