Cashing in

After thirteen years of slowly remodeling our house, we have finally moved to the phase where we sell it. It was never our plan to stay in this house that long yet here we are. Like Moses wandering the wilderness, we have now gazed upon the promised land.

Fatty Fatcakes

Over the last decade, I have been steadily gaining weight and once COVID started, I gained some more. While at my mother-in-law’s house I decided to step on her scale and I had blown past my previous all-time high. I’m not trying to fat-shame anyone by saying this, but I would like to look more attractive to my wife and we should all know by now there are health issues associated with being overweight. Visceral fat in the liver and other organs makes them work harder and leads to an early demise at best and a loss of quality of life at worse.

The Choice

A few weeks ago, I sent out a Throwback Thursday email about the usefulness of libraries and asked for book recommendations. My cousin told me about the book The Choice: Embrace the Possible by Dr. Edith Eva Eger.

The Connection

Last week, I received a huge compliment from a coworker. The gist of it was what I wrote on my blog provoked their thoughts, that my writing was raw, and they sensed true emotion in my words. Then we ended up talking for an hour about one of my latest blog posts.

Master Painting

Over the pandemic, some people started doing things like making sourdough, Tik-Tok challenges or learning to tie-dye. Other than playing with squirrels and reading, I can’t say I have any hobbies. I have heard Europeans don’t ask what you do for work, instead they ask what you do as a hobby.

And apparently, they would consider me pretty dull since I don’t have a hobby I am passionate about (spreadsheets are my hobby but also my work).

SUCCESS?

Early in 2010, I was laid off from my job and began working at a call center. They were quickly promoting me to other departments and eyeing me for management after a month. I also had a side gig building a website for an Ad agency I used to work with (the previous job directed them to me).

Now Accepting Walk-ins

As a child, my mom would always tell me not to care what other people think. If I was embarrassed out in public, she would say, “Don’t worry, you will never see these people again.”

Wrastling

Sometimes, your life will feel like a slow train wreck. One that anyone with eyes could see coming, but is impossible to stop. Your car is stalled on the tracks and even though the conductor has applied the breaks, traffic in either direction has you blocked in and your car is not going to move in time.

Oh, Me Lucky Charms, II

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how lucky I am to have not been too affected by these winter storms we had. In the end, I broke down what I thought of as the 3 parts of luck (being fortunate, being prepared, and having a positive attitude).
